For the beginning of this unit in Year 3 I am working with folding paper. I've chosen to work with this medium because I find the structural build to folded paper quite engaging. There is no wrong way to folding paper, each crease, line and angle contributes to a new possibility of looking at the form. The simplicity is what attracts me to explore these formations .
In the pictures below I have used 'Playing with Books: Upcycling, Deconstructing and Reimagining the Book' to get me started into playing around with paper.
Weaving Paper.
Slotting paper into every piece creates this wonderful effect.
With my version of a paper flower I rolled up a piece of triangular paper to slot comfortably in the middle as I thought it was missing a center piece.
From what I already know about paper folding I practiced my skills and had a play around with scrap pieces of paper from a sketch book and an old novel.
The way the text becomes hidden in these folds interests me. Interesting sense of depth. Will need to create my own imagery.
Picked up this spare leaflet from Students Union and begun a herringbone fold, managing to finish it in roughly 3min.
We see things differently when the subject is re-arranged, such as being attached to a wall.
The next folds I have done are taken out of a book called 'Folding Techniques for Designers'
Began cutting into the folded paper with a stanley knife.
